Taxes can be stressful for everyone, regardless of how long you have been filing or how educated you may be. If you’re looking to track your expenses and taxes, you can always choose to save traditional receipts and hire an accountant. There is also a good amount of software that you can use from the ground-up to track and file your taxes. However, recent times have seen the rise of release in tax tracking software. If you are looking to simplify the tax tracking process, we have gathered a list of tools that can help you accomplish that task.
Tools To Simplify The Tax Tracking Process
The Budget Option: TaxSlayer
Coming in at a reasonable $32 for the classic version and $40 for the premium version (in addition to a free version), TaxSlayer is recommended for those on tight budgets looking to get the most out of their tax tools. It has a very simple, very streamlined interface and is easy to use for those who may not be as knowledgeable about taxes. However, TaxSlayer only allows users to file their 1040EZ for free and access to tax support comes with the classic or premium package. Luckily, it only takes $27 out of your state returns. All in all, TaxSlayer is a good option for those who want a more affordable tax-tracking tool and may not need all the bells and whistles of other tools.
The Easy Option: TurboTax
TurboTax has long been hailed as the leading tax-tracking tool in terms of how easy it is for the everyday taxpayer to utilize. TurboTax has a free version, a $54.99 deluxe version, a $79.99 premier version, and a $114.99 self-employed version; it is not the cheapest out there, but the prices can be worth it for the included features. If you are new or unsure in the tax world, TurboTax is ideal even if it may cost a pretty penny. The interface is also very intuitive and simple, so even if you aren’t tech savvy, you should have no problems operating TurboTax. When filing for a free return, they take $29.99 from your state return; if you are filing with a paid version, they take $39.99 from your state return.
The Supportive Option: H&R Block
If you have lots of tax questions or need someone to help walk you through the process, H&R Block is the tool for you. On top of their free version, their deluxe version only costs $54.99 and their premium version $79.99. They have a multitude of physical locations so you can meet with an expert face-to-face OR utilize their support tools. Unfortunately, while they excel at supporting their users, some of their features can be lacking. If you file with their free version, they take $29.99 from your state return and $39.99 if you file with one of their paid versions.
Bonus Mobile Option: IRS2GO
The IRS2GO app is great for those who need access to a tax-tracking tool from their phone. The app contains tax tips and updates you on tax laws and legislation as they may be changed or updated. Additionally, you can get help from a local tax expert through the app. You can also use it to check on your return or request copies of your return and transcripts. Unfortunately, you can’t file with this app but it is useful if you need some extra help. It is also free in both the Google Play and Apple stores.
